Sweet rice flour dumplings stuffed with fresh coconut and banana — the sweet version of fara made as a dessert and festival offering.

Method

  1. Make filling: combine grated coconut, mashed banana, grated jaggery, cardamom and nutmeg. Mix. Divide into 12 portions.
  2. Make dough: combine rice flour and salt. Add hot water gradually kneading with wet hands to a smooth moist dough.
  3. Divide into 12 balls. Wet palms. Flatten one ball in the palm into a round.
  4. Place one portion of filling in the centre. Fold and seal edges completely.
  5. Shape into smooth ovals.
  6. Set up a steamer. Line basket with oiled cloth.
  7. Steam on medium 15 to 18 minutes until outer layer is firm and cooked through.
  8. Serve warm with ghee drizzled over.
